Welcome to the Ice Cream Capital of Texas!

Home to the iconic Blue Bell Creameries, Brenham has earned its sweet designation as the Ice Cream Capital of Texas. From the rich history of Blue Bell to the many local spots serving up scoops of creamy goodness, Brenham is a must-visit for ice cream lovers everywhere.

Brenham has long been known as the home of Blue Bell Creameries, one of the most iconic ice cream brands in the country. Now, that reputation is official — as of May 2025, Brenham is designated as the Ice Cream Capital of Texas by the State of Texas!

This exciting designation was made possible thanks to the efforts of Visit Brenham, the area’s Destination Marketing Organization (DMO), who spearheaded the initiative and saw it through the legislative process. With the help of Rep. Trey Wharton (R-Huntsville) and Sen. Lois Kolkhorst (R-Brenham), the resolution passed with overwhelming support — a true testament to the pride and cultural impact Blue Bell has had on the Brenham community and beyond.

“Blue Bell is more than just ice cream to Brenham — it’s a part of who we are,” said Elayne Grisbee, Destination and Partner Coordinator for Visit Brenham. “We’re thrilled to see our local identity honored in this way and look forward to sharing the story of Brenham with even more visitors.”

“Blue Bell has been a cornerstone of Brenham’s story for generations,” said Kathrine Briscoe, Tourism & Marketing Manager for Visit Brenham. “As our largest tourism partner, they welcome over 250,000 visitors annually — and this designation is a wonderful way to celebrate their impact on our community and local economy.”

Visit Brenham continues to serve as a strong advocate for promoting the region’s charm, history, and one-of-a-kind experiences — and this designation adds another delicious reason to visit. Whether you're touring Blue Bell Creameries, grabbing a scoop at a local shop, or celebrating at one of our many events, there's no sweeter place to be than Brenham.
