Soon we’ll celebrate Juneteenth, when 250,000 women, men, and children would see freedom come to Texas! But before freedom came, enslaved women and men, like Mary, Jerry, Willis, Jake, Lucy, and Charity, would labor on plantations like Barrington, sunrise to sunset – and even later – producing income and maintaining the planter’s home. Join us for a weekend of reflection on the various tasks of the enslaved on a plantation and learn more about the actual enslaved individuals we have recorded at Barrington. Burton Cotton Gin Festival

Come celebrate history in the making at the 37th Annual Burton Cotton Gin Festival on Saturday, April 18th, 2025. This charming small-town Texas festival is FREE and family-friendly, featuring a parade, live music, contests, games, arts and crafts, delicious food and drinks, an antique tractor pull, an engine show, and classic cars on display. Join us for guided tours of the Gin structure from 11 AM to 2 PM. Also at 3 PM, you can watch the 1914 Burton Farmers Gin in action as it processes a bale of cotton!

Gamblers, Horse Racers, and Sports of All Classes: Horse Racing in Washington

Join us on Saturday, April 4th for an exciting 19th century horse racing exhibition! This year’s event will feature 5 races on the track at 10:30am, 11:30am, 1:00pm, 2:00pm, and 3:00pm. You’ll enjoy the atmosphere of race day, with period games like faro, refreshments, stick horse races for kids, and wagon rides by Iron Horse Guest Ranch! As part of an exciting new partnership with the Texas Racing Commission, Racing Steward Darline Knight will be giving talks throughout the day about the modern horse racing industry in Texas. Propagating Texas Bluebonnets – Lunch and Learn

Have you ever wondered how you can plant bluebonnets on your own? The Brenham Heritage Museum will be hosting Ken English of the Gideon Lincecum Chapter of the Texas Master Naturalists to explain how you can successfully propagate bluebonnets and watch them bloom in the spring.

Join us at the Julie and Larry Tegeler Bus Depot Gallery (313 E Alamo St) on Thursday, April 2, from 11 am – 12:30 pm for this delightful and informative presentation. The cost of admission is $15 for this event and will cover the cost of lunch. Seating is limited and all tickets must be purchased online.

Historic Texas Buildings open for tours
