Brenham is a Certified “Tourism Friendly Texas” Community
The Tourism Friendly Texas program, launched by the Office of the Governor and the Texas Economic Development & Tourism Office, recognizes communities that actively foster and support tourism growth through collaboration, strategic planning, and a commitment to hospitality. Certified communities demonstrate that they are ready and willing to welcome visitors—and that tourism is a valued part of their local economy.
As of April 2025, Brenham is officially recognized as a Tourism Friendly Texas community—one of the inaugural cities to receive this designation—thanks to the work of Visit Brenham, our area’s Destination Marketing Organization (DMO), which completed the required steps to meet the program’s statewide certification criteria.
“Tourism plays a major role in our community’s economic health and quality of life,” said Kathrine Briscoe, Tourism & Marketing Manager for Visit Brenham. “Being named a Tourism Friendly Texas community reinforces the importance of what we do every day—sharing Brenham’s story, supporting our local partners, and creating experiences that keep people coming back.”
“From local shops and restaurants to historic sites and scenic drives, everything we do in tourism is about building connection,” added Elayne Grisbee, Destination & Partner Coordinator for Visit Brenham. “This designation is a celebration of the people and places that make Brenham feel welcoming, memorable, and worth exploring.”
In 2024, tourism in Washington County generated $119.9 million in direct visitor spending and supported 890 jobs, underscoring its vital role in the local economy.
With this certification, Brenham joins a growing list of cities across Texas recognized for their dedication to hospitality and tourism-driven economic development.
